Paddy's Notes
Everyman's Death Diminishes Me

The title is based on an old John Donne quote "Anyone's death diminishes me."

Despite the exceptions, most humans have an inate reservation about killing another human. The song addresses the exceptions in the world. "John" is John Lennon. The initial idea for this song was the conflict in Northern Ireland. Verse 2 deals with that.

Jesus, the ultimate humanist, we're told, dies "so we could go on". The ultimate sacrifice. The end of the song addresses us all. The one in the mirror. What can each of us do to help ensure that a song like this may never need to be written and/or sung?

Lyrics
Everyman's Death Diminishes Me
Recorded on: Live-Love-Now

John said, imagine living life in peace
With no religion, yet everyone believes
In peace among men and a world without end
Another one gone and still it goes on

My brothers and sisters in religious divide
For so many years, their future denied
From Father to son, go bombs and go guns
So many gone and still it goes on

Everyman's death diminishes me
Everyman's death diminishes me

Jesus a poor boy, He gave up His life
In this world of darkness, He is a light
He said, Come on to me and I'll set you free
He was another one gone so we could go on

From father to son go bombs and go guns
Another one gone so we could go on

Everyman, Everyman, Everyman,
Everyman, Everyman,
Everyman's death diminishes me,
Everyman's death diminishes me

Who is below?
Who is above?
Who is your God?
Who do you love?
Who are you now?
Who could you be?
Everyman's death diminishes me

John said, Imagine living life in peace.
Everyman's Death Diminishes Me
